What is BDE? And why does it matter?

BDE stands for Beginner Driver Education, Ontario's MTO-approved driver training program. A certified BDE program has three components: classroom theory, home-study curriculum, and in-car driving lessons.

Completing a certified BDE program like Omega's earns you two things most drivers do not know about: a shorter wait period before your G2 test, and an MTO certificate that reduces your auto insurance premium.

Not all driving schools are BDE certified. Omega has been MTO-approved since 1994.

How much does a BDE driving course cost in Etobicoke or Mississauga?

Omega's Standard BDE Package is $749+HST and includes 20 hours of online theory, 10 hours of home-study curriculum, and 10 hours of in-car lessons. The Extended Package is $959+HST and includes 15 in-car hours. Both include Driver's Licence History record, free pick-up and drop-off, and free road test booking assistance with no hidden fees. Individual G/G2 lessons are $60+HST per hour, with 5-lesson ($275+HST) and 10-lesson ($550+HST) blocks available.

Do you pick students up from their home in Etobicoke or Mississauga?

Yes, free pick-up and drop-off is included with every in-car lesson for students anywhere in Etobicoke or Mississauga. We also pick up from schools and workplaces if that is more convenient. There is no additional charge for this.

How does the BDE program reduce my insurance premium?

Completing an MTO-certified BDE program entitles you to an insurance certificate and a Driver's Licence History (DLH) record. When you provide these to your auto insurer, you receive a discount on your premium, typically for several years after you are licensed. Which DriveTest centre do you prepare students for?

Most of our students test at the Etobicoke DriveTest centre at Centennial Park Plaza on Eglinton Ave W, though we prepare students for any Ontario DriveTest location. Our approach is the same regardless: we teach students to drive properly, not to pass a specific test route. Drivers who are genuinely competent arrive prepared and composed at any centre. After 30 years on these roads, we know every condition our students will encounter.

What is the difference between the Standard and Extended BDE packages?

Both packages include the same 20 hours of online BDE theory, 10 hours of home-study curriculum, MTO insurance certificate, Driver's Licence History record, free pick-up and drop-off, and free road test booking assistance. The only difference is in-car time: the Standard Package includes 10 hours of in-car lessons, while the Extended Package includes 15 hours. The extra 5 hours in the Extended Package focus on the areas students find hardest: complex manoeuvres, highway confidence, and building the kind of composure that produces a clean road test.

Every lesson covers specific defensive driving skills: hazard scanning and anticipation, safe following distance management, evasive manoeuvre technique, off-road recovery if your wheels leave the pavement, proper highway merging and exit, and the systematic S-approach to complex intersections for maximum visibility. We do not just get students to pass a checklist. We teach them to drive safely for life.

Is highway driving included in lessons?

Yes. Highway driving is part of our standard lesson curriculum. Students get time on the 427, 401, and QEW as part of their in-car hours. Getting comfortable at highway speed including merging, lane changes, and exit ramps. These are skills we work on before students are licensed and out on their own.

Can I use your car for my G2 road test?

Yes. If you do not have access to a vehicle on test day, we can provide our dual-control car for the Etobicoke DriveTest exam for an additional fee. Contact us to learn more and we will get it added to your file when you book your lesson package.

Absolutely. Many of our students come to us after a difficult experience at another school, or after stalling out on their own. Our instructors are both known for their patience. We go at the student's pace, build confidence gradually, and never rush a nervous learner. If your teenager is anxious behind the wheel, that is exactly the kind of student we work best with.
